Warts are skin growths that occur on your skin as a result of the outer skin layer cells dividing rapidly. A virus known as human papillomavirus(HPV) is known to cause warts. Although these warts look like a mole, they’re certainly not the same. They are also not cancerous in nature. Generally, warts usually appear on your hands or fingers. There are many types of warts on hands and they are generally harmless growths on the skin that usually go away on their own. But warts on hands tend to be a persistent condition as they often recur even after they are successfully treated.
What Causes Warts on Hands?
As mentioned earlier, there are various types of warts on hands. Warts on hands are usually caused by an infection caused by the HPV virus. This virus is highly contagious and can easily be passed from one person to another. The virus can enter your skin through a small cut near your fingers. There are over 100 various kinds of HPV strains with each infecting a particular part of your body. The virus itself has no cure and its exact cause is still a mystery. The virus can be transmitted by touching objects or sharing towels with a person affected by the virus. However, people are different and some many not develop warts even if they have the virus.
What are the Types of Warts on Hands?
Warts are normally rough to touch and are skin colored. They can appear on any part of the body, for example the face, eyelids, fingers, feet, and hands. Some warts can even appear on private parts and are known as genital warts. The following are the different types of warts on hands and their occurrence depending on their location:
Common warts are tiny, dome-shaped hard bumps. They are mostly rough to touch and grayish-brown in color. Sometimes they resemble a cauliflower with black dots. These warts usually appear on the hands, fingers, elbows, and knees.
Flat warts are so tiny in size and resemble a pin head. They are yellow, light brown, or pink in color. They generally appear on the faces of kid and are much smoother than other types of warts. They can also appear on the arms, hands, and knees.
These warts usually appear on your soles. They are also known as “Verruca plantaris”. They are painful and make walking very uncomfortable. These warts can grow inwards due to the pressure on your feet as you walk or stand, causing a very thick and hard skin layer to form. This layer is known as callus.
Filiform warts are long, narrow, skin colored and finger-like growths. These warts appear near the eyes, nose, or mouth, in clusters or on their own. These warts mostly appear on one’s face and thus referred to as facial warts. Nonetheless, these warts are extremely contagious and can be passed on through sharing of napkins, towels, and so on. You may also see these warts appear on other parts of your body, such as hands or fingers once you touch them.
